Buying Guide For Kids Biker Gloves
So what are the most important features you want to keep in mind when buying bike gloves for children?
Half-Finger Vs Full Finger Gloves
One of the biggest questions you’ll be asking yourself is whether you get your kid half-finger or full-finger gloves. Both have their own advantages and disadvantages.
Full finger gloves have more room for your fingers, but this means they will also cover more of your hand. If you want to avoid any potential issues with your child’s skin getting chafed by the glove, then these would be perfect.
However, if you don’t mind having less space for your fingers then half-finger gloves might be a better option. These tend to be smaller than full-finger gloves and therefore won’t cover as much of your hand.
You could still use these if you want to protect your child’s hands from scratches though. When it comes right down to it, there is more protection with full finger gloves, both from injury and cold temperatures – but there’s less “control” with full finger gloves.
What we mean by this is, although the grip on the handlebars will be largely unaffected by either a pair of gloves, half-finger gloves allow for your child to pick up and handle other things that may be smaller or more precise, such as the bell or their water bottle.
Materials The Gloves Are Made From
You’ll also be thinking of materials. Biker gloves can be made with a wide array of different materials, but you will find some common ones on the market. Velcro, leather, foam padding, etc.
When it comes to you thinking about which materials to go for, it really depends on your child. Leather tends to hold its shape well over time and Velcro tends to lose its stickiness after a while.
Foam padding tends to be good for keeping your child’s hands warm and protected, but not great for gripping onto anything. So, if you’re looking for something that is going to last longer, then leather gloves would be best.
If you want something that your child can easily grip onto, then foam padding is not ideal. However, if you want something that is going to be easy to clean and wash, then Velcro gloves are excellent.
Once again, it’ll come down to personal preference. You’ll be weighing up protection, easiness to clean and how well your child can hold onto things.
Sizing for Kids Biker Glovers
Another question you’ll be asking yourself when choosing some kids’ biker gloves is size. You’ll need to consider how big your child’s hands are. The bigger the hands, the larger the glove needs to be of course.
What we’ve found is that not all manufacturers’ sizing charts are the same. For example, if one store offers an XS size it may not fit your kid’s hands, but another store’s XS will.
It’s best to check the manufacturer’s sizing chart but if possible, purchase two pairs and decide between the two which ones are better and more suitable.
Here’s how to properly measure your child’s hand for a bike glove:
Design
Everybody likes to wear things that look good, so you’ll also need to bear in mind the design of the gloves that you are purchasing.
Kids have a habit of not wearing things that they don’t like the look of or things that other kids might make fun of them for wearing.
Luckily, there are many types of gloves that will appease kids with superheroes on them or kids’ cartoons on them. For older kids, there are plenty of neutral unisex colors.
Does More Expensive Mean More Protection?
One thing that you should think about when buying kids’ biker gloves, is whether they offer more protection than cheaper alternatives.
The reason we recommend checking out the price tag before making a decision is that sometimes, even cheap gloves can provide a high level of protection.
So no, more expensive gloves do not necessarily mean more protection, but with large brands – you can expect them to use more expensive and more durable materials, so they may last longer, especially if they’re being used regularly.
How Long Do Biker Gloves Last On Average?
It really depends on the type of gloves you buy, and of course – how fast your kid grows up! In general, though, most children grow out of their biker gloves within a year or so.
However, this doesn’t always happen. Some kids will continue to wear them for a few years. If you’re unsure, just ask the manufacturer what they recommend. They’ll know what kind of material works best for your child.
Conclusion
There are plenty of different options available when it comes to kids’ biker gloves. It’s important to research each option thoroughly before deciding which one suits your kid best.
We hope that this guide has helped you find the right pair of kids’ biker gloves for your little one.
